PT Journal AU Sidak, P TI The Language of Catholic Literature SO Bohemica Olomucensia PY 2015 BP 105 EP 128 VL 7 IS 2 DI 10.5507/bo.2015.020 DE Catholic literature; Catholic culture; apophaty; biblical allusions; Jan Cep's work AB We approach "Catholic literature" from the point of view of language, as opposed to the motivic/thematic or ideological approaches. We argue that the language (rooted in the tradition of Catholic culture) used in fiction to describe the experience of the sacred has its unique characteristics: suggestiveness, silencing, apophaty, the meaningfulness and frequency of biblical allusions, through which it relates to the dominant text and the core of Catholic religion. The essay uses the examples from the works of Jan Cep. ER
