This study deals with Eduard Petrů's concept of interpretation and his approach to interpretation. The study explains the basic theoretical and methodological basis of his scientific works. The core of Petrů's concept of interpretation is the theory of interpretive space, interpretive fields and the interpretive center. According to Petrů, the basic key to the interpretation of the text is its poetics. The pivotal elements of his method of interpretation are contextualization, comparison, structural and functional analysis, and genre studies. Petrů is convinced that the aim of literary research is to obtain an adequate interpretation of the studied text. His concept of interpretation is text-centered and empirical: the interpretation is based on critical and rigorous analysis of the text material.
