Two from Orten Award: Reflection of Poetry Collections of Elena Pecenová and Ondřej Krystyník

The study deals with analysis of two contemporary Czech collections of poems - Na cestu zpět si zapínám skryté titulky (For the return trip I am turning on the hidden subtitles) by Elena Pecenová and Ondřej Krystyník's Dům U Orobinců (House by Typha). Both authors representing distinct but noticeable poetic approaches were nominated for The Jiří Orten Award in 2024. Pecenová connects her work with visual art and digital aesthetic, her poetry reflects identity in the digital environment and simulacra. On the other hand, Krystyník uses motifs of path, new ruralism, and spiritual reflection while fusing existential searching with humorous self-reflection. The comparison of those two poetics' shows distinct approaches to imaginative exploration of present-day reality. While Pecenová deconstructs boundaries between image and language, Krystyník is concerned with introspective and symbolic expression.
