Miloslava Vajdlová

Bohemica Olomucensia 2016, 8(2):18-33 | DOI: 10.5507/bo.2016.020

Action nouns derived from verbs with the suffix -ež (krádež, loupež, etc.) used to be originally masculine in Czech (similarly as in other Slavonic languages). The derivatives have changed their declension affiliation and have merged into feminines in the course of centuries (similarly also in Slovak and Polish).

The author analyses the function of selected syntactic plan language means, the usage of which has been attested in the presenters' speech within Události, the main evening news of the Czech statutory broadcaster, Česká televize. The presenters use full valency syntactic constructions, i.e. syntactic constructions using the complete set of verbal arguments. The presenters don't manifest any of the phenomena typical of everyday spontaneous spoken interaction. Bohemica Olomucensia 2016, 8(2):108-120 | DOI: 10.5507/bo.2016.025

Principles of the Czech orthography can be observed in the relationship between phonemes and morphemes (Josef Vachek), or in the unified registration of the morpheme, regardless of the pronunciation in various co-occurrences, which is the basic orthographic principle governing especially the Slavonic writing systems (Baudouin de Courtenay). In this article, the authors describe the auxiliary character of the phonological principle, which supports merely the recording function of the orthography. On the other hand, the morphematic principle fulfils both basic functions of writing and orthography, i. e. recording and recognition of the meaning of morphs...
